Popkins on Sui: Claynosaurz's Cross-Chain Expansion, Explained
Claynosaurz didn't just launch a new collection — it launched an entirely new mint mechanic, on a different chain. Here's how the Popkins mystery-pack mint actually worked.
Quick facts
- Popkins is Claynosaurz’s expansion onto the Sui blockchain — a separate 25,000-NFT collection
- Mint mechanic: 25,000 mystery packs at 200 USDC each, but only 2,000 packs actually contained a Popkin
- Non-winners were refunded and given extra rewards, not left empty-handed
- Three pack tiers: Escape Packs, Legendary Packs, and Rat Packs
- Real results: 97,347 NFT tickets minted, 17,760 unique holders
- Popkins is live and tradeable right now on this platform’s Sui marketplace
Claynosaurz's core collection lives on Solana. Popkins is a deliberate, separate expansion onto Sui — and instead of just porting the same PFP-mint format to a new chain, the team built a genuinely different mechanic around it.
The mystery-pack mint
Instead of a straightforward "pay X, get a guaranteed NFT" mint, Popkins sold 25,000 mystery packs at 200 USDC each — but only 2,000 of those packs actually contained a Popkin NFT. Everyone else wasn't left with nothing: non-winning pack buyers were refunded and given additional rewards on top, so the downside of "not winning" was cushioned rather than a straight loss.
Popkins mint mechanics (real counts)
The packs themselves came in three tiers — Escape Packs, Legendary Packs, and Rat Packs — each with different odds and different digital rewards bundled in regardless of whether you actually pulled a Popkin. The whole thing ties into a future Web3 mobile game the Claynosaurz team has planned, where Popkins holders get deeper in-game integration than non-holders.
Why the numbers matter
97,347 NFT tickets minted against a 25,000-pack cap tells you the mint mechanic itself became a repeat-engagement loop, not a one-and-done purchase — a meaningful share of participants came back for more than one pack. 17,760 unique holders for a 2,000-NFT-supply collection also tells you the reward/refund structure did its job: most participants who didn't pull a Popkin still stuck around as part of the ecosystem instead of just walking away.
Why did Claynosaurz choose Sui for the Popkins expansion?
Sui's transaction model is built for exactly this kind of high-throughput, bursty mint event — thousands of pack purchases landing in a tight window without the network choking or fees spiking unpredictably. That's a real, practical reason to pick a second chain for an expansion like this rather than just cloning the original Solana mint format.
The part that actually matters if you want in
Popkins is a real, live, tradeable Sui collection — not a wrapped or synthetic version. It's already listed on this platform's own marketplace, and the same rule that applies to every collection here applies to Popkins too: you don't need a Sui wallet stocked with SUI ahead of time. Pay from Solana or an EVM wallet, and the cross-chain conversion happens as part of the purchase itself.
